A little over a year ago, I pondered the idea of starting an art blog. I thought about the kinds of topics I could write about, and couple of came to mind. I told myself that if I could come up with 10 topics, I would start a blog. Concerns like 'would anyone actually read any of this?' gave me the why bother attitude, but within about 5 minutes I had 20 topics. I then came up with a years worth of excuses and nothing happened, until now.
Having 10 years of serious artist experience under my belt now, I believe I have some things to say, things to point out and ideas to share. I'm primarily an experimental printmaker specializing in monotypes and Solarplate intaglio prints. But, even after all these years, I still experiment with acrylic paints and mediums.
I took a monotype class the Art Students League of Denver in January of 2000, without the intention of becoming a printmaker, but rather to see if I could print some of my ideas. This changed my approach to art and my life. A couple of months earlier, I quit a good-paying software job because I hated going to work each day. I soon spent every day (until having to get a job a few months later to pay the bills) loving what I did and couldn't wait to become involved on my next printmaking experiment. My efforts started to pay off. I entered a monotype in the Artists Magazine's 2001 competition under the Experimental category and received 3rd place, beating incredible odds. Other awards happened as did some sales of my prints.
So much for this opening blog. Before I get even more carried away with things, I better stop and get working on the next blog and the next, and the ones after that.
